Chanteuses

Chanteuses was founded by Jack Miller in 1996 with a motto of "Lifting Women's Voices." It is an auditioned adult women's choir (SSAA) that prepares programs in December and May. Members come from the greater Sacramento area. The ensemble has also been led by Dr. Chris Alford, Michael Reynolds, Dr. Bev Wesner-Hoehn, and Judy Britts. William (Bill) Zinn has served as Artistic Director and Conductor since the fall of 2019.

Chanteuses is committed to promote and support young artists. They have hosted shared treble performances with SSAA choirs from Antelope High School, directed by Jennifer Fulkerson, and St. Francis High School, directed by Tina Harris. The group has also invited student instrumentalists to accompany them as featured soloists and in major works such as Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols (harpist Aden Barbuta) and Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria (Davis Sr. High Orchestra, directed by Angelo Moreno).

The group will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026. To mark the occasion Chanteuses has commissioned a new work "WE SANG BEFORE WE SPOKE" by Amy Gordon and lyricist Libby Weber, with text based upon their thoughts of what it means to them to sing and to be part of a choir.

Chanteuses is excited to announce that they have been invited by Dr. Nicolås Dosman to join him and the UCD Choirs in performing Rosephanye Powell's powerful work, The Cry of Jeremiah, at Carnegie Hall in June 2026.
